ETFs represent an area of significant innovation and growth for Nuveen. The Capital Markets team resides within the ETF department, operating as the principal point of contact across the ETF ecosystem — collaborating with internal stakeholders such as Portfolio Management, Trading, Operations, Technology, Sales, and Marketing, while serving as the primary connection for ETF Market Makers, Authorized Participants, Exchanges, and trading platforms.

This role offers significant opportunity for accelerated development, enabling a motivated professional to build deep expertise in ETF capital markets while taking on substantive responsibilities across operations, strategy, and relationship management. The Capital Markets Specialist will manage critical day-to-day operations including ETF creation and redemption processes, custom basket rebalancing, and market quality monitoring, while also supporting Nuveen's Closed-End Fund capital markets programs. The Specialist will have the opportunity to contribute to a $16B+ and growing ETF franchise spanning 25+ active and index strategies across municipal bonds, CLOs, structured credit, and equities — a platform with genuine competitive differentiation in investment capabilities. As Nuveen's ETF platform expands, the Specialist will grow into a subject matter expert and technical resource for distribution teams, advisors, and clients, while building relationships with authorized participants, market makers, and exchanges. Direct mentorship from the VP, ETF Operations & Capital Markets and structured development opportunities — including industry conference attendance, regulatory training, and cross-functional collaboration — are core to how this team is built, with increasing responsibility as capabilities expand.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage Nuveen's ETF creation and redemption process (including custom in-kind basket construction and portfolio rebalancing) through close collaboration with Portfolio Management, Trading, Authorized Participant, and Market Making teams.

  • Support Nuveen's Closed-End Fund capital markets programs, including ATM shelf offerings and share repurchase programs, in coordination with relevant internal and external stakeholders.

  • Monitor and analyze ETF market quality indicators including trading volumes, bid-ask spreads, premiums and discounts to NAV, and primary market flows, and work proactively with ecosystem participants to address liquidity or trading issues.

  • Build and maintain working relationships with authorized participants, market makers, and exchanges to support a healthy trading environment across Nuveen's ETF lineup.

  • Serve as a technical resource on ETF trading and liquidity for distribution teams, advisors, and clients, providing education and execution guidance as part of Nuveen's broader distribution support effort.

  • Partner with Legal and Compliance to maintain ETF-specific policies and procedures related to custom baskets, AP oversight, and primary market operations.

  • Develop and deliver regular reporting on capital markets metrics, flow analysis, market quality indicators, and platform performance to ETF leadership and internal stakeholders.

  • Support ETF product launches and platform enhancements through cross-functional collaboration with Portfolio Management, Trading, Operations, Technology, Marketing, and Sales.
