TIAA’s Corporate Controller group is looking for a Senior Manager for the Statutory Financial Reporting team. The Statutory Financial Reporting Team is responsible for regulatory and analytical reporting for the Company’s general and separate accounts. This role is responsible for ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the team’s reporting, both internally and externally.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Direct and manage the preparation of the quarterly fluctuation analysis, including accumulating financial support, performing an analytical review of the data, and networking with business partners to gather input into key trends/drivers, and significant changes for each quarter.
- Direct and manage the preparation of monthly financial statements, including performing and documenting analytical reviews of the results.
- Manage the preparation and perform review of the annual audited statutory financial statement and the quarterly and annual non-audited statutory financial statement (blue book) footnotes. Ensure their completeness, accuracy, and adherence to the New York Department of Financial Services requirements and Statutory Accounting Principles.
- Prepare executive level financial reporting for presentation to the quarterly Disclosure Committee, Audit Committee, and Executive Management Team meetings.
- Manage the completion of various regulatory reports, including the annual Management Discussion and Analysis, estimated GAAP financial statements, and responses to regulatory inquiries.
- Provide audit support to internal/external auditors and serve as liaison for the external auditors. Maintain a sound internal control environment, create efficiencies and strengthen operating controls. Comply with and maintain all SOX procedures and controls.
- Keep abreast of all new accounting and reporting regulations and participate in various industry working groups to ensure compliance with statutory accounting principles. Research, interpret and apply accounting guidance and coordinate with the Accounting Policy team to ensure appropriate application of accounting principles.
- Network with senior personnel to expand knowledge, gain insight, and influence outcomes.

Required Qualifications:
5+ years of financial reporting experience required
CPA required
Preferred Qualifications:
7+ years of financial reporting experience
Knowledge and understanding of Statutory Accounting Principles, General Accepted Accounting Principles, NY State Insurance Department and NAIC regulations
Proven experience leading and managing teams
Experience in driving change and process improvements
Excellent research, analytical, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
Public accounting experience
Insurance and/or Financial Services Industry experience
Experience with Workiva financial reporting platform
Proficient in Excel
