Overview of the Role

The Vice President of EMEA Insurance Advisory & Product will serve as an insurance subject matter expert on the complex investment considerations of EMEA insurance companies, including asset allocation, local regulatory regimes, accounting, tax, ALM, risk, etc.  The professional will work closely with investment teams to review and optimise Nuveen’s investment capabilities and product offering to ensure maximum investment strategy alignment with the needs of EMEA insurers. Additionally, they will be expected to provide input into structuring capital efficient solutions and securitisations that fit within EMEA life and non-life insurance portfolios subject to Solvency II and Solvency UK, as well as Bermuda (re)insurers subject to BMA regulations.  The individual will partner closely with and support the global distribution team in their interactions with insurance company clients, including through portfolio analytics, thought leadership and other marketing efforts.  This role will be part of Nuveen’s global insurance team and will work hand in hand with colleagues in distribution, advisory, product, marketing and client service around the world.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee, monitor and evaluate existing investment strategies, products and structures from an insurance company perspective (including capital efficiency analysis) to educate and improve Nuveen’s competitive positioning and value proposition for insurers. 

  • Partner with colleagues in Product and Distribution to evaluate and design new structures targeted to EMEA-based insurance companies’ general account and unit-linked portfolios based on asset allocation trends, regulatory/tax/accounting considerations and competitive analysis.    

  • Research and incorporate insurance industry trends, asset management competitive environment, product flows, and client feedback into product strategies and capital raising tactics.

  • Monitor EMEA and Bermuda insurance regulatory developments for impacts and opportunities within the investment product and investment landscape.  Communicate developments internally and externally.

  • Develop strategic asset allocation and portfolio optimisation frameworks, peer analysis and other insurance analytics/modeling capabilities and communicate insurance investment strategy to clients to aid in commercialization of Nuveen’s public and private product platform.

  • Contribute to thought-leadership tailored to insurance companies related to relevant and timely investing topics.

  • Provide guidance and input on EMEA insurance matters for marketing collateral, due diligence/RFP questions, client servicing and other purposes.

Technical Skills & Qualifications Required:

  • Extensive knowledge and expertise of global regulatory and accounting regimes required: EU and UK Solvency II, Lloyd's of London, Bermuda Solvency, IFRS.

  • Significant understanding and operational experience with key insurance investing considerations for general account and unit-linked portfolios: portfolio construction (including Matching Adjustment portfolios), SCR, tax, accounting, ALM, risk, ESG/climate, etc.

  • Good understanding of UK and Bermuda insurance markets, including key design features of the retirement segment products.

  • BA/BS required, MBA, CFA or similar preferred.

  • 7+ years of direct insurance investment experience, including within an insurance company, insurance asset manager and / or professional services firm.

  • Strong knowledge of capital markets and non-traditional asset classes including real estate, infrastructure and private credit.

  • Strong analytical skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills.

  • Attention to detail, while thinking strategically.

  • Cultural fit and desire to work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Self-motivated and directed individual, with the ability to take ownership to ensure outcomes are achieved and ability to escalate as needed.

  • Language skills: English (fluent).
